Diabetic Foot Update 2025 Successfully Concludes in San Antonio

15. December 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Antonio, TX —The American Limb Preservation Society (ALPS), in proud partnership with UT Health San Antonio, announces the successful conclusion of the 2025 Diabetic Foot Update (DFUpdate), held December 6 and 7.

This revitalized educational meeting, hosted for the first time in more than twenty years, brought together 140 participants from five countries and across medical and surgical disciplines for an exceptional educational experience centered on the Charcot foot.

“Bringing DFUpdate back after so many years was an important moment for ALPS. We are thrilled to have DFUpdate as a part of the ALPS conference portfolio. We look forward to growing this conference and continuing this partnership with UT San Antonio,” said Georgia Krehbiel, MBA, CEO of ALPS.

Held at UT Health San Antonio, DFUpdate 2025 provided a focused platform for interdisciplinary learning and clinical dialogue. Healthcare professionals including podiatrists, vascular surgeons, endocrinologists, wound care specialists, and allied clinicians explored challenging cases, shared best practices, and strengthened collaborative approaches to limb preservation.

Honoring Legacy

The 2025 meeting coincided with the 200th birthday of Professor Jean Martin Charcot, widely regarded as the father of modern neurology.
To mark the occasion, the conference opened with a keynote address by Dr. Georges Ha Van of Pitie Salpetriere Hospital in Paris, titled “The Life and Work of Professor Jean Martin Charcot.”

DFUpdate 2025 also honored the legacy of Professor Lawrence B Harkless, whose vision helped establish the original DFUpdate series.
The 2025 Lawrence B Harkless Award in Diabetic Foot Leadership was presented to Professor Edward Jude of Manchester, United Kingdom, in recognition of his global contributions to diabetic foot care, research, and education. Dr. Jude shared his research on “Two Decades of Inflammatory Markers and Targeted Pharmacotherapies in the Charcot Foot.”

Leadership in advanced diabetic foot care

Cochaired by Dr. Lee C Rogers and Dr. Lawrence Lavery, with Dr. Robert Frykberg serving as honorary chair, the conference program was designed to foster deep cross-specialty engagement through case-based discussions, lectures, and dialogue. Day one addressed early identification, diagnostic accuracy, and the broader implications of Charcot neuroarthropathy. Day two built on that foundation with sessions on surgical decision making, complex reconstruction, and future-focused care strategies.

“DFUpdate 2025 created a space where specialists could explore challenging cases and share approaches that do not often get this kind of focused attention,” said Dr. Lee Rogers, Chief of Podiatry at UT San Antonio.

Organized by the multidisciplinary limb salvage and diabetic foot faculty at UT Health San Antonio, the scientific program of DFupdate reaffirms the institution’s leadership in advanced diabetic foot care.
