ALPS was proud to be represented at the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s KITES Symposium, where our Founding President, Dr. David G. Armstrong, delivered the keynote address,“Teaming Up to Eliminate Preventable Amputation: Worth a Life’s Work.” The symposium brought together experts from across disciplines to advance conversations on limb preservation, diabetic foot care, wound management, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
A highlight of the event was the ALPS “Limb Salvage Road Trip” session, chaired by Dr. Alexandria Armstrong and featuring an outstanding panel of clinicians and educators dedicated to improving outcomes for patients at risk of limb loss. Discussions focused on practical approaches to diabetic foot assessment, revascularization, team-based care, and the real-world challenges of limb preservation.
The KITES Symposium showcased the power of collaboration across specialties, reinforcing a message that lies at the heart of ALPS’ mission: preventing amputations requires coordinated, multidisciplinary care. Throughout the meeting, physicians, nurses, surgeons, wound care specialists, rehabilitation professionals, and healthcare leaders came together to share knowledge and strengthen partnerships.
We are especially pleased to see our Founding President representing ALPS on such a respected stage while continuing to advocate for the importance of limb preservation and early intervention. Events like KITES help build the connections, shared learning, and clinical innovation needed to improve patient outcomes and reduce preventable amputations.
ALPS congratulates the KITES organizers and all speakers, moderators, and participants who contributed to a highly successful meeting. We are also excited to continue our partnership with the KITES team and look forward to collaborating on KITES 2027 the 9-10 September, further strengthening our shared commitment to advancing limb preservation through education, innovation, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
