Sean Lanting with poster: Does Cutaneous Microvascular Disease Affect Diabetes-Related Foot Ulcer Healing? (Best Scientific Abstract Award 2025)

“The sheer scope of possibilities for prevention of foot complications and associated impact, and appreciating that this is within reach with continued research and application, globally, is exciting. I was delighted to share our review of the role of microvascular dysfunction in DFU healing, and overjoyed to receive the award for best scientific abstract on behalf of my colleagues (Ally McIllhatton, Robert Fitridge and Vivienne Chuter), which validates our desire to continue research in this area.”

“Heartfelt appreciation to the Woodlands Health Vascular Surgery Team for their support in this impactful project. With advancements in wound care, we have the power to save limbs and save lives. This collaborative, synergistic approach will undoubtedly benefit many patients.”

Miguel Bargas Ochoa with poster: How Effective Are Standard of Care Interventions for Diabetic Foot Ulcers? A 12-Week Random-Effects Meta-Analysis (Young Investigator Award 2025)

“I got into medical research because I was passionate about understanding and applying evidence-based medicine while addressing unanswered questions in healthcare. My research focuses on summarizing the standard-of-care treatments for diabetic foot care, analyzing over 25 years of data to evaluate the effectiveness of current therapies and identify areas for improvement.”

Myeounggon Lee with poster titled: Evaluation of a Smart Offloading Device System for Accelerating Diabetic Foot Ulcer Recovery: A Randomized Controlled Trial (Best Scientific Abstract Award 2024)

“I completed my postdoctoral training at Baylor College of Medicine and am currently a postdoctoral researcher at UCLA Health, working with Dr. Bijan Najafi on the Smart Boot Study project.  This study focuses on optimizing wound healing for patients with diabetic foot ulcers by leveraging advanced IoT wearable sensors.  The project is actively recruiting participants and progressing successfully,”

Ting-Ting Yeh with poster: Investigating Factors Affecting the Adoption of Smart Diabetic Foot Screening Technology (Best Poster Award 2024)

I have always been passionate about bridging the gap between technology and healthcare to improve patient outcomes.  My research focuses on understanding how innovative solutions can be effectively integrated into clinical practice and embraced by patients and providers alike. By investigating the adoption of smart diabetic foot screening technology, I aim to empower healthcare systems to deliver more accessible and proactive care for those living with diabetes.”

Dr. Abdul Razzak Abdul Aziz with poster: Making Guidelines Work for You: The Evaluation and Management of Diabetic Foot During the Syrian Crisis (Best Clinical Abstract Award 2024)

“In 2004, I was working as a general surgeon in the General Surgery Department at the General Assembly of Damascus Hospital.  One day, a diabetic patient came in with tears in her eyes, expressing her frustration to the head of the department. She had been visiting the hospital for some time due to a foot injury, but each time she came in, she saw a different doctor who prescribed various treatments, and her condition continued to worsen. On that day, I approached the head of the department and asked if I could take over the care of diabetic foot cases.  He responded, “I would be grateful if you did this,” and all the surgeons in the department agreed. Since then, I have been dedicated to fighting for diabetic foot patients.”
