SINGAPORE — Professor David G. Armstrong, Founding President of the American Limb Preservation Society (ALPS) and an internationally recognized authority in limb preservation and podiatry, captivated a diverse audience of healthcare professionals at a recent event hosted by the Podiatry Association Singapore.

“It’s wonderful to have Professor Armstrong here live to enlighten us with his lifetime of groundbreaking work,” expressed Chelsea Law, moderator for the event, on behalf of the Podiatry Association Singapore President Jackie Tey.

Professor Armstrong’s lecture delved into the indispensable role of the interdisciplinary team in limb preservation. “The data are strong to show the central role of podiatry in the team approach—this is why the ‘toe and flow’ model works so well” Professor Armstrong elucidated.

A tenured professor of surgery at the University of Southern California, Dr. Armstrong has been a pioneering figure in the field. He has authored over 660 peer-reviewed research papers and 110 books or book chapters. He co-founded the Southwestern Academic Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA), leads USC’s NSF-funded Center to Stream Healthcare in Place (C2SHiP) and has also co-founded the American Limb Preservation Society (ALPS). Among his accolades, he has been awarded the prestigious 2023 ISDF’s Karel Bakker Award.

Chelsea Law continued “The Podiatry Association Singapore and its members are incredibly honored to have had Professor Armstrong share his expertise and vision, inspiring a new generation of healthcare professionals to value teamwork in the pursuit of limb preservation.”

The formation of the Podiatry Association (Singapore) in 1994 marked a significant moment for local podiatrists. Through the association, podiatrists could collaborate, share knowledge, and establish a uniform standard of practice. Today, PA(S) has become the premier professional organization for podiatrists in Singapore, a testament to the dedication and commitment of its members.
