Bangalore, India – In a significant stride toward global diabetic foot care advocacy, the American Limb Preservation Society (ALPS) marked its presence at PODOCON 2025 in Bangalore, India, reaffirming its mission to eliminate preventable amputations worldwide.

The visit underscored ALPS’s commitment to advancing education and promoting the benefits of multidisciplinary teams in diabetic foot care in regions facing high burdens of diabetes-related complications.

Humbling & Inspiring Experience

“Visiting Bangalore, India for PODOCON has been a humbling and inspiring experience,” shared Georgia Krehbiel, CEO of ALPS.

Dr. Sanjay Sharma, one of India’s leading podiatric surgeons, highlighted the significance of ALPS’s visit:

“The visit from ALPS leaders during PODOCON 2025 was a significant moment. It validated our clinical efforts on the ground and brought international expertise and shared learning into sharp focus. Their engagement strengthens the bridge between local innovation and global standards in limb preservation.”

Dr. Armstrong’s Keynote Reflections

Delivering a keynote at PODOCON 2025, ALPS Founding President Dr. David G. Armstrong offered a poignant reminder of the gravity of the global diabetic foot crisis.  He reflects:

“Delivering the keynote at PODOCON 2025 was both a professional privilege and a deeply meaningful opportunity. With likely more than 100 million people with diabetes in India, the burden of diabetic foot complications is profound—and growing.

The work being done by Dr. Sanjay Sharma and the entire organizing team represents a hopeful countercurrent to that burden.

By building bridges between prevention, technology, and team-based care, this meeting reflects a shared commitment to keeping people with diabetes active, ulcer-free, and amputation-free. It was an honor to share the stage and ideas with such a dedicated group of innovators.”

Dr. Lee Rogers, esteemed DFCon faculty and an internationally recognized leader in podiatry and diabetic limb salvage, also delivered a keynote address, focusing on the “Toe and Flow” model  and the essential role of multidisciplinary teams in improving patient outcomes when it comes to limb preservation.

His presentation underscored the importance of integrated care strategies—bringing podiatric and vascular specialists together to reduce amputation rates.

Looking Forward: Leading the Global Charge in Diabetic Foot Education

By sharing educational resources and supporting and promoting multidisciplinary team development, and championing global best practices, ALPS continues to lead the charge in diabetic foot care innovation across continents. At the core of ALPS’ educational efforts is DFCon, its flagship conference and the foremost forum for diabetic foot care advancement.

This was underscored in the May 2025 special issue of the Limb Preservation Journal features a newly published article by Georgia Krehbiel, MBA, CEO of the American Limb Preservation Society (ALPS), and Annkathrin Mathe, MSc, Program Director of ALPS.

Titled  “Leading the Global Charge in Diabetic Foot Education,” the article presents a compelling overview of ALPS’ leadership in advancing global education, collaboration, and clinical strategies to prevent diabetic foot-related amputations.
