Poster Title: Making Guidelines Work for You: The Evaluation and Management of Diabetic Foot During the Syrian Crisis
“In 2004, I was working as a general surgeon in the General Surgery Department at the General Assembly of Damascus Hospital. One day, a diabetic patient came in with tears in her eyes, expressing her frustration to the head of the department. She had been visiting the hospital for some time due to a foot injury, but each time she came in, she saw a different doctor who prescribed various treatments, and her condition continued to worsen. On that day, I approached the head of the department and asked if I could take over the care of diabetic foot cases. He responded, “I would be grateful if you did this,” and all the surgeons in the department agreed. Since then, I have been dedicated to fighting for diabetic foot patients.”
